This is a question I get asked a lot. Should you workout in the morning? At night? During the day? Which is optimal for fat loss and/or muscle growth?

There are a lot of different opinions on the most ideal workout time. I like to simplify it.

Do what works best for you!

I have a pretty flexible schedule so I typically like workout out around 12pm-4pm. It breaks up my day nicely. I personally feel like I have the most energy at this time. Most people do not have this luxury though working a typical 9-5.

I think a lot of people are better off doing the workouts in the morning before work. The reason being you get it over with. You have no excuse not to workout later in the day. On top of that, you start your day off with an accomplishment. This puts you on a nice schedule with no excuses.

With that said, I know some people are not morning people and simply do not have the energy. For them, I would recommend going straight after work. Don’t even go home. I’ve seen it way too many times where people get home from work, plop down on the couch, get too comfortable and don’t hit the gym. Don’t let that happen to you!

Pack your gym clothes with you and go immediately after work. Much like the morning workouts, this will get you in a routine.

I personally don’t think there is much difference in effectiveness depending on the time of day you workout. Maybe some slight differences in strength/energy levels. But to me it is more important to just go with a routine that you can sustain with your lifestyle.

Try out some morning workouts, if you aren’t feeling it try out some night workouts after work. Some people will even workout during their lunch breaks but I think you might feel a little rushed. Not to mention wanting to shower and all that. Whatever you do, make it a routine and stick with it!
